The World’s Greatest Video Is This Once-‘Clinically Dead’ Man Winning $250,000 On A Scratchie
Truly the luckiest unlucky man to ever walk the Earth.
In 1999, a lot was happening in the world. We were just on the brink of the new millennium, SpongeBob SquarePants aired for the first time ever, and Aussie truck driver Bill Morgan was celebrating his one year anniversary of surviving being declared clinically dead.
Now before you ask, “who the hell is Bill Morgan?!”, please put some respect on Australia’s luckiest unlucky man. For those who don’t know, Bill Morgan was the Aussie icon who won $250,000 on a scratchie on live TV, while reenacting his previous scratch-card win of a car for a news segment.
I'll never forget the Aussie that came out of coma after 12 days to win a car on a scratch card and when he gets asked to re-enact it by a news channel, wins 250 grand 🍀 pic.twitter.com/qluuo5H1yb

According to news reports at the time, before 37-year-old Bill won his car and his quarter of a million dollars, he was actually in a major truck accident that resulted in him having a heart attack.
Continuing the string of truly unfortunate events, Bill had an extreme allergic reaction to the medication he was given, which resulted in him clinically dying after his heart stopped for 14 minutes. From here, Bill was put into a coma where doctors recommended his life support be switched off.
Lucky for Bill, his family decided to keep the truck driver alive and he awoke from his coma just 12 days later without any permanent damage. From here, his luck started looking up. While living in a caravan, a year after his coma, Bill bought a scratchie and instantly won a car that was worth about $17,000 (which is approximately $26,000 now with inflation).
Naturally, Bill’s story of absolute-misfortune-turned-great-luck caught the attention of a local news station in Melbourne, who asked Bill to reenact his win for their feel-good segment on him.
To do this, Bill bought another ticket and scratched away to reveal that he had just won again, but this time it was a whopping $250,000 ($385,000 in today’s dollars).
Catching his reaction on camera, the truck driver reacted like any nonchalant Aussie bloke would — by calmly saying “I just won $250,000. I’m not joking” with the most emotionless face I have ever seen.
Thankfully, when the win set in, Bill started to show some real emotion, especially once he called his fiancé to share the news.

Despite happening over two decades years ago, @AnalyseLevi decided to share the iconic video to Twitter overnight, where it quickly went viral. But beyond people not being able to believe Bill Morgan’s impressive luck, most just couldn’t fathom that the truckie was only 37 in the footage.
If I looked like that at 37 I’d fall in a coma too.

37? Where was his paper round, Aleppo?

Out of all the shocking info in that video is it strange that the only thing i picked up is he is fucking 37!! 37…..that must of been some fucking coma.

I’m sorry but the most shocking aspect of this is that the geezer is only 37.

Meanwhile, others noted that Bill Morgan was just lucky that the camera crew asked him to re-enact the scratchie win and not the whole, you know, being in a coma for two weeks thing.
At least they didn’t ask him to re-enact the coma.

Anyway, if you need me I’ll be waiting for my own Bill Morgan moment of my own — minus all the comas and dying, of course.
