Lads On TikTok Are Having A “Bit Of A Beveragino” And It’s Delightful

This might be Britain's best contribution to TikTok.

“It’s lovely weather, I wish the lads were here for a bit of a beveragino”.

While we don’t know who the lads are, and we mightn’t be entirely sure what a “beveragino” is, it’s pretty clear that TikTok user @henry.moore02 has immediately tapped into a fundamental part of human experience.

Perhaps it’s the desire for connection, perhaps it’s the concept of yearning, or perhaps I am over-thinking things, and it’s just a good boy who wants to have a drink with his friends.

After he announces his desire for a bit of a beveragino, and a positive review of the weather, the rest of the video consists of the lads in question popping up in various, and somewhat mildly surprising locations, shouting “did someone say a beveragino?”

It is, without hyperbole, the most wholesome experience on TikTok at the moment. Maybe grab yourself a beveragino and have a watch.

While the original video itself is delightful, the fact that it quickly spread, and homages began popping up, also became a part of the delight. All these friendship groups experiencing some lovely weather, and having a bit of a beveragino!

The thing about TikTok is that it can be quite slick sometimes — the line between curated, authentic experience blurred by snappy editing, the concept of “truth” extremely malleable, with savvy creators knowing that a well-made video only has to look real, and therefore go viral. In summary — sometimes those tricky kids can hoodwink us with their digital magic!

These videos are very clearly authentic — they’re low production value, the sound often extremely sketchy. You can hear everyone giggling as they “hide”. The gag, if you can even call it a gag, simply being that people are in slightly outrageous or incongruous situations. My personal favourite is just the person who turns up in a kayak.

I also think that these videos tap into an almost global desire at the moment during pandemic — a simple wish to enjoy a nice beveragino in the sun with our friends. Plus, everyone is delightfully social-distanced.

A real roni mood.
