After more than 30 years as one of late-night TV’s most reliable fixtures, David Letterman is finally pulling up stumps. There’s only two weeks until Letterman’s final Late Show gig, after which he’ll be replaced by Stephen Colbert, but in the meantime he’s being treated to a few indulgences as a mark of his impact on the late-night landscape, one of which was a forty minute sit-down chat with US President Barack Obama.

Obama himself is getting ready to leave office late next year, and the two made plans for how they’re going to spend their time, before exchanging lengthy proclamations of mutual love and respect. It was very cute.

One of Letterman’s favourite characters also made a surprise reappearance in the audience — Will Ferrell playing late baseball commentator Harry Caray, an impersonation Ferrell first perfected on Saturday Night Live. I had no idea who Harry Caray was either, but Australia has more than enough constantly confused sports commentators for the joke to translate.
