Earlier in the week, we watched Eminem randomly perform ‘Lose Yourself’ at the Oscars.

Following the confusion over his performance, Eminem explained to Variety why he chose to perform the song in 2020 despite not being nominated for any awards.

‘Lose Yourself’, from 8 Mile, actually won Best Original Song at the Oscars in 2003. However, because Eminem thought he wouldn’t win and as he had performed the song a few weeks prior at the Grammys, he decided not to attend the Oscars that year. So Eminem used this year’s Academy awards as his opportunity for a do-over.

While the performance wasn’t necessarily bad, ‘Lose Yourself’ as a song didn’t really fit the energy of the award show or the vibe of the people in the room. During his performance, audience shots proved just how uncomfortable and confused the celebrity crowd were. The reactions of superstars like Idina Menzel, Billie Eilish and Martin Scorsese pretty much summed up everyone’s feelings to the unexpected stage takeover.

But beyond the stills of the uncomfortable celebs, the video of the audience reaction to Eminem’s performance has now also become a meme. Along with the confused expressions, the video also shows others enjoying ‘Lose Yourself’ which makes the “the audience at the Oscars vibing to” meme even better.

Started by @filmsbye on Twitter, the meme features the Oscars audience reaction dubbed with a super random audio track accompanied by the text: “The crowd at the Oscars vibing to…” The original meme mixed the Oscars video with Timothée Chalamet’s old high school project song about math called ‘Statistics’.

After the original went viral, people begun making their own versions of “the audience/crowd at the Oscars vibing” meme. In some equally bonkers audio choices, people edited the footage with things like Robert Pattinson’s unintelligible gibberish from The Lighthouse and a supercut of Ryan Gosling screaming.

Others took a different approaching by baiting people with normal words and unexpected audio. For example, a Harry Styles version of the meme used ‘Jason’, a skit song from Harry’s SNL hosting gig, when everyone expected something from his album, Fine Line.

Everyone else, however, just used the most random movie scenes imaginable the meme, including Toni Collette’s Hereditary monologue, the crying scene from Midsommar, and the audio from the ram-don act in Parasite.
