Earlier this month the world said goodbye to legendary musician Aretha Franklin, and on Friday mourners gathered at a church in Detroit for the singer’s funeral. Among those who attended the ceremony were former US President Bill Clinton, civil rights leaders Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and actress Whoopi Goldberg.

Sharpton also read a letter from former President Barack Obama, who said Franklin’s voice “lifted millions”.

Also in attendance were a number of prominent American musicians, several of whom performed tributes to the late great artist. Pop-singer Ariana Grande performed a rendition of  the Queen of Soul’s iconic 1967 hit ‘(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman’, accompanied by a gospel choir.

But it was Jennifer Hudson who brought the room to its feet towards the end of the ceremony with a stunning performance of ‘Amazing Grace’.

Franklin will be buried in Detroit alongside members of her family.
