'Alita: Battle Angel' is cinemas on February 14.

Prepare yourself for an out-of-this-world film experience, because Alita: Battle Angel is in cinemas on February 14.

In case you haven’t heard about the long-awaited sci-fi epic, let us do the honours. Alita: Battle Angel is the latest film from James Cameron (who directed almost every blockbuster you love, including Avatar) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City). The cast is led by rising star Rosa Salazar (you may have seen her in American Horror Story or Netflix’s Bird Box), Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Hailey, and Mahershala Ali.

Bringing artful set pieces to life with stunning visuals and effects, it’s set to be a big-screen dream and will be even better in 3-D.

James's Cameron's Alita: Battle Angel

The film centres on Alita, a cyborg brought to life in a motion capture-assisted performance by Salazar, as she fights to recover her memories in a world ravaged by war. Salazar’s performance sits directly in the uncanny valley, showing us the best of cutting-edge technology. Giant, glassy eyes are pulled straight from the manga and convey a character who is equal parts innocent and empowered.

Perhaps the best indication of what this film has in store for us is the visceral motorball scene. Thanks to Cameron, this futuristic sporting match is a grand spectacle, while Rodriguez challenges the audience’s expectations.

This blockbuster sci-fi is a hybrid of real-life technology and fantasy, but never at the expense of the heart of its characters. You can check out the trailer below and see the film in cinemas from February 14.
