Alice Glass, the musical firebrand formerly of Crystal Castles, is back with a bold new solo single, ‘Without Love’.

The song dropped overnight, accompanied by an arresting music video helmed by Floria Sigismondi. The Italian-born director is a fitting visual collaborator for Glass, having worked with the likes of Sigur Rós, Fiona Apple, David Bowie and Björk over an accomplished career.

‘Without Love’ is the second solo track from Glass, following 2015’s ‘Stillbirth’. Former HEALTH member Jupiter Keyes worked as a producer on both tracks, but Glass’s latest finds her in a glossier mood. Those spiky edges are still present, but there’s a new electronic-pop sheen as well.

To celebrate her new music, Glass has found a perfect touring partner: the Antichrist Superstar himself, Marilyn Manson. Glass will warm up for Manson, who is teasing his tenth studio album, at select US shows this year. (As it happens, Sigismondi also directed the iconic video for Manson’s ‘The Beautiful People’.)

Glass announced her departure from Crystal Castles in October 2014, citing “a multitude of reasons, both professional and personal.” She has since spoken about her acrimonious partnership with Crystal Castles bandmate Ethan Kath. The Crystal Castles project has continued with vocalist/songwriter Edith Francis joining Kath. When Crystal Castles 2.0 was booked for a Tumblr event “celebrating the female voice” in 2016, Glass told The Verge, “As someone who knew Ethan Kath on a personal and professional level, it is my opinion that he is not an appropriate artist to be performing at a feminism-centric event.”
