Right-wing commentator Alan Jones — who has sensationally been dropped by 2GB radio, The Daily Telegraph and Sky News in recent years — is officially entering his flop era with a new online broadcast, which kicked off last night.

The new show, titled Direct To The People, kicked off at 8pm on Monday night with a speech about — you guessed it — being silenced. “You’re not allowed to have an alternative viewpoint,” he screeched on the broadcast, which was streamed on YouTube, Facebook and his own website. “They won’t silence you or me,” he continued.

But in an outstanding display of irony, Jones was almost immediately silenced less than three minutes into the broadcast. After 2.45 minutes of rambling, the broadcast glitched out and came to a screeching halt across all three feeds.

As you’d expect, Jones’ team asserted this was due to “excessive demand”, causing the livestream to be delayed by two hours.

But according to YouTube, the livestream amassed no more than 1,778 viewers at one time. So either, Jones has an extremely bad livestream server that can’t handle more than a thousand viewers, or his team is lying about the “excessive demand.”

However, if you ask Jones’ online fans why the broadcast flopped, they’ll tell you it was a big tech conspiracy theory to silence him.

As for the episode itself, Jones welcomed two guests — Senator Matt Canavan and NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet. Perrottet was congratulated by Jones on his commitment to “freedom of speech.”

“We’ve lost the quintessential Australian characteristics of optimism, fun…offering one’s own opinion without the fear of being cancelled,” Jones said.

The NSW Premier vowed to keep the state out of lockdowns. “There are still so many commentators, politicians and members of the public who would still prefer us to be locked down in circumstances where there is no need,” the Premier said.

Meanwhile, Matt Canavan discussed his push to increase Australia’s domestic manufacturing sector and his plans for nuclear energy.

Apart from that, Jones stayed true to his usual ranting BS, complaining about COVID, climate change, education and — for reasons unclear to me — the 389 bus route, which changed its route “out of the blue”.
