Of all of the Gossip Girl alumni, it’s probably Leighton Meester that we hear from the least.

While Blake Lively has seemingly not left our side, with turns in The Town, The Rhythm Section, A Simple Favour, and a ubiquitous presence on Hollywood’s red carpet circuit, it looks like Leighton has opted for a less public life. And look, good for her. If I was in the biggest teen show in the world for five years, I would probably keep a low profile too.

But could A Weekend Away thrust Blair Waldorf — I mean, Leighton Meester — back into the limelight?

The new thriller — not to be confused with A Week Away, which looks very bad — follows best friends Beth (Leighton) and Kate (Christina Wolfe), as they embark on a picturesque holiday to Croatia. But only one of the women makes it through alive. (It’s Beth.) Dun dun dunnn. You get the idea.

The circumstances of Kate’s death aren’t ideal: she’s found dead in the Adriatic one morning, and nobody knows how she got there. Given the mysterious circumstances, Leighton ends up being the prime suspect in her murder. Judging by the trailer, a lot of police questioning and pandemonium amid the beautiful surroundings of Split and Zagreb ensue, and her efforts to prove her innocence unearth some “painful secrets”. I love a scenic murder mystery, don’t you?

The cast also includes Palestinian actor Ziad Bakri and Croatian actors Iva Mihanić and Amar Bukvić, with direction from Kim Farrant (Strangerland)It’s based on Sarah Alderson’s bestselling novel of the same name.

Have a watch of the trailer below.

A Weekend Away premieres on Netflix on March 3.
