It’s a common misconception that introverts are “homebodies” who don’t enjoy travelling. Could it be that most introverts actually love travelling but are not so keen on going with big groups of people?

This isn’t because introverts are incapable of making friends, but because being around people all day can be draining. But just because crowds make us tired and small talk makes us uncomfortable, that doesn’t mean we should be denied our travel time!

So if you’re anything like me, travel is best enjoyed alone. Here are six travel experiences that will suit any introvert. Happy travels!

Do An Internship Overseas

If you want to travel solo but are also scared of being alone, then why not apply for an internship in another country? You’ll be bound to make friends with all the other interns, but you won’t be with them 24/7. You’ll be able to have weekends away and work in a different country while improving your resume. It’s a win-win, really.

See A Broadway Show In London

Sitting in a theatre with a bunch of strangers is way better than having your mum whisper “what did he say?” in your ear 100 times throughout a play. I mean, I love getting dressed up and going to shows with my family or friends. But if you find that nobody wants to go with you, just experience it yourself. You don’t have to share the popcorn with anyone, and there’s no talking. What bliss.

Backpack Around Europe

Backpacking and hiking is the ultimate “find yourself” trip for introverts. Apart from when you’re crashing at a cheap hostel with strangers, you don’t really have to engage with others if you don’t want to. You don’t need to ask where anyone else wants to go next, you just go wherever you feel. The best part? When you get away from the city, you truly become one with nature, and this can help you realise that you can rely on yourself for anything and everything!

Get Lost In Tokyo

Japan is a great place for us introverts because we can remain anonymous. We’ll be constantly weaving through a sea of people without anyone ever talking to us. And it helps that Japanese people are not intrusive. We can ride the bullet train (Shinkansen) from Tokyo to Mt Fuji, and reflect on life while looking at the beautiful scenery. There’s no better way to recharge than enjoying a long, solitary train ride.

It also helps that in Japan it’s considered rude to talk to others and make a lot of noise on the train. You’ll be guaranteed a peaceful ride with no small talk.

Bike Around The French Countryside

Got a need for speed and strong calf muscles? Try a biking tour. This type of trip appeals to introverts because it offers time to socialise with the group, and times to be alone. And then there’s the fact that we’ll be getting a work out while riding around the scenic French countryside. Also – there’s no need to feel guilty about eating too many croissants because we’ll be burning those carbs off straight away!

Relax At A Yoga Retreat In Mexico

This is ideal for thoughtful travellers who like historical sights and are interested in different cultures. Visit the ancient ruins, swim in the crystal blue sea, go snorkelling with turtles before truly unwinding at a spa and yoga retreat. This is the ultimate relaxation option for introverts.
