Huh, Roman Roy Had A Wife And Child?

A hellish scenario that was thankfully nipped in the bud.

When it comes to Succession‘s Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) it really is bombshell after bombshell — and the show isn’t even on right now.

Yes, while we’re still recovering from the realisation that Roman is not in fact the Roy clan’s youngest sibling, we are now learning that Roman had a wife and kid in the show’s pilot!

Twitter user known as Alex flagged the moment in response to a thread that asked users to talk about their favourite continuity errors in sitcoms, to which they replied: “Not a sitcom, but in the first episode of Succession, Roman had a whole wife and daughter. Wedding rings and all.”

Alex did her homework, going on to say that the actor Molly Griggs is indeed credited on IMDB as Grace Roy. It looks like the writers changed their mind, re-writing Grace as Roman’s girlfriend (they break up a few episodes later) and getting rid of the kid. Sorry to this child.

I think we can all agree that whoever made this call did the right thing. After all, Roman’s weird sexual proclivities that show themselves during interactions with his subsequent girlfriend Tabitha (Caitlin FitzGerald) and Gerri (J Smith-Cameron) are one of the show’s most intriguing aspects.

I mean, can you imagine a Succession where Roman is cloistered by a nuclear family (no offence to them, they seem very nice) every day as opposed to having extremely inappropriate phone sex with Waystar Rocco’s General Counsel?

I do not even care to think about it — so I thank Jesse Armstrong and his ilk for swiftly changing tack.
