Roman Isn’t The Youngest ‘Succession’ Sibling And People Are Losing Their Damn Minds

"I was a Roman Roy youngest sibling truther from the start, and I won't elaborate!"

We finally got our first look at Season 4 of Succession yesterday; for some reason spurring a round of furious debate as to who, exactly, is the youngest Roy sibling.

The question has spun fans into a veritable tailspin, with many under the impression that noted boy-man Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) was the youngest child getting a rude awakening.

You see, Shiv (Sarah Snook) is apparently the youngest child according to official lore — estimated to be in her early 30s, with Roman pegged at around 35.

But those who have believed that Roman Roy has been the youngest sibling all of this time are refusing to yield to the truth, declaring themselves ‘Roman Roy truthers’, and honestly, I think I might be one of them.

You see, as the youngest of four myself, I see myself in Roman, you know? I see myself in him. Like so many of us, Roman is deeply uncomfortable in this world, and he has developed the cynicism and chaotic sense of humour that so many youngest kids embody. When Kendall drunkenly told his younger brother that he “wasn’t a real person” at his 40th birthday party? I felt that.

Shiv, on the other hand, seems to be a relatively normal human — or at least has the appearance of one. As the only sister among three brothers, she’s probably had to develop at least a semblance of maturity to be taken seriously, or to have any chance of getting a stake in her (sexist) father’s company. But still, while she seems younger than Connor (Alan Ruck) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong), she rarely exudes younger child energy, thanks to being a gal.

As one Twitter user succinctly sums up, “It doesn’t even matter if Shiv is the youngest — if she’s the only girl she’s an older sibling by default”. 

Basically, it doesn’t matter who is actually the youngest, because Roman seems the youngest, okay? And even though the show creators think otherwise, they also made Logan American, then Canadian, then…. Scottish? So it’s time to give the people what they want, and make Roman the youngest! Or at the very least, a twin.
