Former US President Donald Trump has delivered an unexpected Christmas miracle by shutting down conservative commentator Candace Owens and defending COVID vaccinations.

Trump sat down with Owens for right-wing show Daily Wire on Tuesday, and was asked where he stood on vaccine requirements in certain fields. “Forget about the mandates, people have to have their freedom, but at the same time, the vaccine is one of the greatest achievements of mankind,” he said.

While continuing to personally claim credit for organising multiple vaccines in less than a year, he slammed Owen’s suggestion that more people have died from COVID this year, despite getting vaccinated under the Biden administration.

“The vaccine worked, but some people aren’t taking it,” said Trump. “The ones who get very sick and go to the hospital are the ones who don’t take the vaccine.”

“But it’s still their choice, and if you take the vaccine you’re protected. Look, the results of the vaccine are very good, and if you do get it, it’s a very minor form. People aren’t dying when they take the vaccine,” said Trump.

Owens then took a pivot to children wearing masks, which is apparently of grave concern to American mothers, according to her. On the dicey topic of kids and COVID, Trump has previously pushed that children should not be vaccinated at all.

Trump replied that he didn’t agree with masks in classrooms, painting what he thinks is a sad picture of students looking sad in school, because god forbid it inhibits America’s freedom values. Naturally, Owens made a comparison to China, to which Trump boldly replied: “China’s education system is a hell of a lot better than ours”.

On the same day, President Joe Biden announced that both he and Trump had gotten their third jab. “I got my booster shot as soon as they were available,” he said, in an Omicron address. “Just the other day, former President Trump announced he had gotten his booster shot.”

“It may be one of the few things he and I agree on,” said Biden. “People with booster shots are highly protected. Join them. Join us.”
