Woolworths has had to press pause on its plastic bag ban after just one week, because it turns out a bunch of its customers are giant pissbabies who just can’t cope.

Seriously — despite plenty of warning in-store leading up to the ban, apparently tons of customers are claiming they didn’t get enough time to prepare for the change. They’re also refusing to just cop the 15 cents for a reusable plastic bag. Totally fair if you’re genuinely struggling financially, but we reckon a good chunk of these angry people could probably afford to pay a one-time cost of even just $1, which would get them six whole bags they can then reuse whenever they want.

Anyway, Woolworths is being exceptionally patient and understanding about the whole thing, acknowledging that “some customers have told us that getting into the habit of bringing their own reusable bags has been a challenge.”

To fix it, they’re giving away reusable plastic bags for free until July 8 — that’s another 10 days for everyone to get into the swing of things. Plus, as Woolworths managing director Claire Peters put it in a statement, “this will not only help support customers as they work to form new habits, but also ensure they’ll have reusable bags on hand when they next choose to shop with us.”

In short, there’ll be no excuse from July 9 onwards. If you’re smart, swing by Woolies before then and stock up on reusable bags so you’re set for life, or at least until you lose them.
