Netflix has released the first look at the cast of The Witcher, and fans are doing what fans do. That is, thirsting, and thirsting hard.

Though the fantasy world of The Witcher was popularised outside Europe by CD Projekt Red’s video game adaptation, Netflix’s new show is based on the Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski. They follow the adventures of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, played in the Netflix series by Henry Cavill.

The Witcher fans were underwhelmed when Netflix released a costume and makeup test late last year, in which Cavill strode toward the camera looking like a cross between Legolas and Viserys Targaryen. Reaction was swift and harsh, with many feeling that Cavill failed to capture the grittiness they’d expected from Geralt.

However, that footage was merely an early experimentation. Now, more than half a year later, Cavill’s take on the titular Witcher has emerged once more. And, like a makeup vlogger who has finally blended their contouring, he looks like a completely different man.

Fans have been more receptive of Cavill’s look this time around. Much, much more receptive.

This upsurge of admiration is not localised to Mr Cavill’s magnificent leather-clad glutes. Netflix also released images of Geralt’s associates Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), who look like fur-lined goddesses.

Fans of The Witcher have taken note that Cavill only appears to be carrying one sword, despite Geralt famously owning two: A steel one for humans and a silver one for monsters. As the Netflix series is based on the books rather than the video games, it’s likely Cavill’s take on Geralt will be leaving the silver sword on his horse until needed, which will be a lot less cumbersome.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for The Witcher, so fans will just have to make do with staring at Geralt’s ass for a while longer.
