When Jasper Jones came out in 2009, author Craig Silvey was praised for depicting what many considered an honest look at prejudice in country Australia. Its mystery element and small town setting led to many comparisons to Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird — which you know, is a pretty big deal.

Now the trailer for the film adaptation has come out, and book fans won’t be disappointed. Starring Toni Colette, Hugo Weaving, Levi Miller and Aaron L. McGrath as the title character, the film synopsis is as follows:

In the dead of night during the scorching summer of 1969, Charlie is startled when he is woken by local mixed-race outcast Jasper Jones outside his window. Jasper leads him deep into the forest and shows him something that will change his life forever, setting them both on a dangerous journey to solve a mystery that will consume the entire community.
