After a two year absence, Sydney’s Vivid festival is back with a stellar line-up, featuring acclaimed international artists like Perfume Genius and Moses Sumney, as well as hosting esteemed Australian talent like Paul Kelly and Tkay Maidza.

This year marks Sydney’s first Vivid festival since 2019, after coronavirus disrupted the show’s annual programming, which had previously brought acts like The Cure and FKA Twigs to the harbour city as part of the festival.

Vivid LIVE will see Sampa The Great debuting her live show ‘An Afro Future’ at the Sydney Opera House, alongside Kaiit, Ebony Boadu, and Barkaa.

Japanese act CHAI will also return to Australia as part of the festival, after previously touring with POND and Mac Demarco in 2020.

Accompanying the musical line-up are the details of this year’s Lighting of the Sails, which will see the iconic Opera House projections featuring First Nations stories. This year’s artwork is inspired by the work of Indigenous arts collective Martu Artists. The festival says that their work will “represents an intimate connection with Country; cataloguing seasons, traditional burning practices and cycles of regrowth, hunting and vital natural resources, as well as abstracted ancestral stories.”

Check out the line-up trailer below, and see it in full on the Vivid website: Tickets to Vivid LIVE shows go live at 10am, March 21. Pre-sales commence March 17.
