Amy Poehler. Chelsea Peretti. Leslie Jones. Hannah Gadsby. Ali Wong. And as of today, a new voice in comedy emerges to join the elite: her name is Victoria Beckham.

Okay, maybe she hasn’t quite reached the same heights, but judging by her new video with British Vogue, Beckham is a lot funnier and self-aware than we give her credit for.

To tie-in with her family’s October cover, the Spice Girl-turned-fashion-designer shot a short video centred around her own private Vogue photoshoot, directed by Isaac Lock. As her label turns 10 this year, it’s called ‘Victoria Beckham, A Decade Of Elegance’.

“Today we’re here at Vogue,” Beckham explains, “and we are shooting a cover story celebrating the rich and inspiring history of one of the most enduring style icons of all time, me, Victoria Beckham.”

Filmed as if a genuine behind-the-scenes look, the video sees Beckham, British Vogue editor Edward Enninful and fashion director Vepetia Scott, among others, discuss her refined style and elegance — of course, the whole thing’s a piss-take.

“This is where two fashion forces join to make something really quite incredible,” Beckham says. “This is really where two becomes one.”

Things don’t go quite as planned, as Beckham has her own vision for the shoot, bringing in a mini-van’s worth of props and outfits. While she says she’s a minimalist, her grand ideas prove a little more spicy.

“What I want, what I really, really want, is me, four other women,” she offers. One sporty, a bit of an athleisure direction. Another one that’s younger, lots of pink, pig tails. One that’s very glamorous, full-on leopard print, and then another one that’s super-super sexy. We’ve got big boobs, red hair, that kind of thing.”

Considering Beckham’s the member currently holding out on the impending Spice Girls reunion, this resulting photoshoot proves she still got a soft spot for her time in the group. Astute fans will recognise most of her outfits, which she seemingly still has 18 years later.

Mostly though, the short video proves, above any winks to Beckham’s past or her apparent icy persona, that she is a master of comedic timing — her facial expressions always land right on the mark.
