This is how it ends: not with a bang, but a whatever. The Veronicas’ six-episode reality show finishes with them toasting to their new lives, in their luxe bush getaway in Queensland.

Everything feels a little loose-ended — there weren’t exactly threads to wrap up on the show, but even so, the finale was pretty underwhelming. We watch the twins move in, fight off spiders, and argue a little, then it ends.

There were so many threads touched upon but never explored. We learn about their mother’s illness, their relationships and their own ups and downs exacerbated by Ruby Rose’s dividing influence, but never go in-depth on any of them.

Blood may be for life, but this was as thin as water. Which is fine, but there’s a far more interesting show in the mix here — we’ll never get it while The Veronicas are so heavily involved in the making of their own show. Like Beyoncé or Lady Gaga’s documentaries, Blood Is For Life is clearly their own narrative. So what did we learn?

Well, The Veronicas Love Coffee

Roughly 7 of the finale’s precious 24 minutes focus on The Veronicas finding coffee. They absolutely froth off the stuff, and cannot function without their java. After a black-and-white shot of BFF Tim’s café seems to suggest it’s died (RIP), The Veronicas go off in search of a café their real estate agent promise is just up the road. Living in the country, the road is long, and they get lost.

Mad Max: Fury Road.

They call their best awkward bud Tim (who appears at the party and seems a bit looser and kind of drunk, and mostly makes fun of Lisa’s husband, Logan), who arranges for a coffee machine to be sent to their house that day. The delivery man teaches them how to use it, and order is restored.

‘The pain and the agony recceeds, and another day can be faced.’

There’s some drama about the house: Lisa and Logan are renovating their side, and it turns out Jess is unhappy with her chosen bedroom due to the lack of light. She freaks out and screams “I hate you” at Lisa, then in the next scene they spoon. Seemingly some sort of apology or resolution took place off-screen? It’s unclear.

The twins also ride lawn-mowers, and absolutely nothing happens. There is a really good line where Jess calls Lisa “Mr. Jim’s Mower himself” though, but is that worth the four minutes?

This was the best screenshot I got, and it absolutely was not worth re-winding to get another.

We meet Jenny the Feng Shui advisor, who guides Lisa and Logan through their furniture plans. It’s very funny, but not intentionally, as it is later when Logan brings out his own runes at the housewarming party and tells someone they will “bring honour to their bloodline”.

It’s equally cringe when Kai breaks out a guitar and sings to everyone: just as Jess says it was the perfect way to end the night, I was thinking about how this party was my personal hell.

Jenny got confused and dropped double the amount of Lisa and Logan, so now they’re just watching her and feeling very, very sober.

Then again, Jess describes her lovely looking (albeit dark) bedroom as a “dungeon”, so perhaps we just have different ideas of liveable spaces. The show ends with a toast to truth and love, with the twins saying they’ve been bought back together after a period apart.

“We don’t know what we’re doing, but we’re doing it together,” they say. It’s quite sweet: if only we saw more of that journey on the show.
