Two Nick Caves Are About To Tour Australia, So Please Double Check Your RSVP
Make sure you buy tickets to the right one.
It’s a big day for fans of Australia’s longest reigning prince of darkness, Nick Cave.
The 61-year-old has today announced he’ll be heading around the country in the first quarter of 2019 without his famed band The Bad Seeds, instead, he’ll be taking to the stage solo to perform songs from across his career, and answer some burning questions from his captive audience. The evening is titled Conversations with Nick Cave — make sure you snap up tickets when they go on sale this Thursday.
Imagine the surprise then, when just 24 hours earlier, Sydney art space Carriageworks sent out an email announcing a special event in which Nick Cave will be in conversation this coming November.
It’s titled, imaginatively enough, Nick Cave: In Conversation. The man staring back at you on the ticketing page, however, is not the man who wrote ‘Red Right Hand’. It’s this guy on the left of, uh, Nick Cave:
Meet Nick Cave. No, the other Nick Cave. He’s an artist, much like his namesake, but rather than the world of music you’re more likely to find this Nick Cave engaged with the world of sculpture and textiles.
His most famous work is a series called Soundsuits, in which he created wearable artworks that cover the entire body and literally have to be seen to be believed. Here’s some now:
Pretty cool, right?
Anyway, this Nick Cave will be talking all about his career in the arts and his own personal inspirations at Carriageworks in Sydney on November 23. That’s roughly three months before the other Nick Cave returns to sail his ships around famed billboard the Sydney Opera House.
So please, whether you’re seeking art-house or ‘God Is In The House,’ double check before you RSVP.
Here’s a handy bit of trivia: Both Nick Cave and Nick Cave were born with the name Nick Cave. The Australian Nick Cave is two years older than the American one, and this is also not the first time their paths have crossed (as evidenced above.)
As Brooklyn Vegan reported back in 2013, the Caves were both peddling their wares in New York City at exactly the same time — the musician was performing at the Beacon Theatre in support of the Bad Seeds’ Push the Sky Away, while the artist was only two miles away at Grand Central Terminal presenting an ensemble dance piece entitled Heard⋅NY.
Perhaps next time, the stars can align so we can finally get Nick Cave In Conversation with Nick Cave. We can dream, right?
