Here Are The Top 50 Most Played Artists On Triple J In 2018
Good list.
Here’s something that absolutely won’t surprise you in the slightest: those folks at triple j? They have good taste.
As part of their end of year wrap-up, the beloved broadcaster has released the 50 acts that got the most airplay on triple j in 2018.
Taking out the top spot is Middle Kids, who have had one helluva 18-months. The band first proved their greatness with the single ‘Edge Of Town’, a banging ode to suburban life and love. Since then, the three-piece have moved from strength to strength, releasing their debut album Lost Friends to much acclaim.
Next on the list is another crew of Sydneysiders, DMA’s. That shouldn’t be much of a surprise: the band boasts a fervent fanbase, and have been triple j mainstays for a number of years now. Who, after all, could forget their take on Cher’s ‘Believe’, recorded back in 2016 as part of Like A Version?
Then we’ve got the list’s first non-Aussies: The Wombats. Well, I say ‘non-Aussies’, but The Wombats tour here so often it’s amazing that they ever bother to leave.
I love The Wombats. They could play a show in Australia every night of the year and I’d still argue they aren’t here enough

The rest of the top ten is rounded out by an eclectic mix of superstars, both Aussie and not: in fourth place is boy band extraordinaire BROCKHAMPTON, who this year transformed a Sydney cinema into a mini rave; in fifth, homegrown heroes Ocean Alley; in sixth, indie rock champion Courtney Barnett; in seventh, synth poppers Chvrches; in eight Wollongong warriors Hockey Dad; in ninth, The Presets; and in tenth, Amy Shark.
The list also boasts a nice mix of established and emerging artists: it’s so lovely to see that triple j threw their weight behind newcomers like Angie McMahon and international cult sensation Wolf Alice in equal measure.
