Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland might be two of our most expressive and exciting young actors — which is why it’s quite so thrilling to see them take each other on in the trailer for the new Netflix film The Devil All The Time.

Based on the novel of the same name by Donald Ray Pollock, the film is a multi-generational story of sin and horror following a cast of equally fucked-up characters that converge in distinctly fucked-up ways. Arvin Russell (Holland) is a young man haunted by tragedy, moved around the country following the death of his father. Preston Teagardin (Pattinson) is a preacher with an eye for young women, and a secret hiding in his past. And then there’s Carl Henderson (Australia’s own Jason Clarke) a charming rogue with a murderous hobby of his own.

There’s a side-bar on the First World War, a great deal of murder, and a mysterious detective (played by Sebastian Stan) who may or may not be getting over his head. Basically, it’s as thrilling and dark as entertainment of this kind comes — and it looks bloody brilliant.

The film was directed by Antonio Campos, one of the key creative voices behind the first season of The Sinner. That makes the film an all-star affair from both in front of and behind the camera.
