The Trailer For ‘Avatar 2’ Has Finally, Finally Arrived
Everyone's favourite 'Blue Man Group' rejects are back to take cinemas by storm this year
After years of speculation, the follow-up to James Cameron’s runaway 3D hit Avatar is officially here.
The first official trailer for Avatar 2: Way Of Water has begun showing in cinemas across the globe. While it sadly isn’t officially available online to peruse yet, the trailer is now screening in theatres showing the new Dr Strange movie.
Junkee has seen the trailer (there are some sneaky links floating around) and can confirm that the Pandora is back baby, with the film promising a return to the lush yet deadly planet a decade after the events of the first movie to focus on the plight of its blue-skinned denizens.
The first Avatar movie saw Jake Scully (played by Sam Worthington) an injured army veteran, permanently abandoning the colonial military forces and ultimately his human body after being inspired to join local Pandora inhabitants the ‘Na’vi’ in their guerrilla resistance.
Fusing with a biologically created extra-terrestrial avatar, Scully falls in love with alien matriarch Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and ultimately helps the Na’vi reclaim their planet with a little help from some key human sympathisers such as Sigourney Weaver.
The trailer for Avatar 2: The Way Of Water returns to Pandora a decade later, and follows the Scully family and their children as they rise to face new threats against the planet. The 13 years director James Cameron has presumably spent tinkering with CGI technology since the first film has paid off, with rendered water effects serving to elicit a gasp from even this cynical reporter.
While there’s not much dialogue in the sneak peek, the trailer showcases plenty of seafaring goodness as Scully and a now visibly pregnant Nevtiri traverse the oceans of the beautiful planet.
Public reactions to the new footage appear to be mostly positive, with people particularly praising the lavish visuals.
