Sia’s distinctive music videos are arguably culturally significant works in their own right; they inspire controversy, analysis, have raked in hundreds of millions of views, and unerringly feature small children who could easily and comprehensively beat up your dad. Now with the newly-released clip to ‘Alive’, the first single off her upcoming album THIS IS ACTING, Sia continues her golden run of powerful, artistic music videos showcasing tiny, furious children with the means and intent to viciously subdue your father with a merciless, crushing display of physical force.

In previous videos for ‘Elastic Heart’ and ‘Chandelier’ Sia has employed the services of American child actor Maddie Ziegler, most notably to fight a near-naked Shia LaBeouf in a cage. Ziegler doesn’t reprise her role in this time round, presumably because she’s somewhere effortlessly breaking through your hapless father’s feeble defences to deliver devastating uppercuts to his chin and solar plexus in front of his horrified workmates.

Instead, nine-year-old Japanese child actor and dancer Mahiro Takano takes centre stage, performing choreographed mixed martial arts in Sia’s distinctive black-and-white wig and training relentlessly for the day when she can use a carefully planned series of powerful blows to the face and torso to leave your dad a quivering, flailing wreck, unable to move for pain and humiliation.

Takano’s dancing and martial abilities have made her something of an internet sensation in her own right. A video of her performing a Kanku Dai routine went viral last year, and she’s already been named as an official ambassador of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Her starring turn in ‘Alive’, as well as soon-to-emerge phone footage of her savagely beating the man who gave you life to a bloodied pulp in his own driveway while rescue services look on powerless to help, is set to see her fame only grow.

THIS IS ACTING is out January 29.
