The lady in red could be heading back to the small screen, with The Nanny star and co-creator Fran Drescher teasing a revival of the iconic sitcom during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. And honestly, why not? I mean, it can’t go worse than Roseanne.

ET spoke to Drescher on Monday at Revolution, an annual LGBTIQ+ charity concert in New York City.

“People really love [The Nanny],” the actress told the publication. “It’s unreal.”

Asked about the possibility that the series could be revived, Drescher said she and her co-creator/ex-husband Peter Marc Jacob were “talking about it”.

“We’re working on a very big project,” she said. “It’s going to be very exciting for the fans, but I’m not at liberty to announce it yet. But it’s gonna be big.”

Drescher also said that in the 20 years since The Nanny wrapped, her character would probably have gotten involved in various social issues.

“All kinds of things from environmental issues, to health, to civil liberties, that’s what I think Fran would be doing now — opening her big Queens mouth for the greater good,” she said.

“The thing is our show would be the same characters 20 years later. We can’t just pick up where we left off. But in a way, that could be really good because the show can have a whole fresh bend to it.”
