The Chats Recruited The Iconic ‘Succulent Chinese Meal’ Guy For Their New Video
Holy shit.
— UPDATE: The Chats have confirmed that yes, it is actually him. —
The Chats have recruited the iconic ‘Succulent Chinese Meal’ guy for their latest clip.
If you’re not across the history, a serial dine-and-dasher made viral history when footage of him being apprehended by police in the ’80s cropped up online years ago. If you haven’t watched — seriously, what have you been doing — get your eyes around it below.
Really, it was only a matter of time before The Chats — purveyors of great Australian irony — decided to use this scene and get him in a video. This morning, they shared a new track from their upcoming album High Risk Behaviour, titled, of course, ‘Dine N Dash’.
The ‘Meal’ guy makes his appearance at the end, as The Chats are similarly hauled out of the restaurant for trying to do a runner, and delivers his iconic line: “What’s the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?”
Two legends, together at last. Watch the video below. And if you’re wondering whether it’s actually him: yes, it is. Music Junkee has confirmed with The Chats’ promo team. NME have reported that The Chats’ co-manager, Matt Weston, tracked the guy down. Plenty of media reports purported that the man — allegedly called Paul Charles Dosza — died in 2003, but according to the website site up in his honour by The Chats, the real man at the centre of the viral video is alive and well.
High Risk Behaviour is out on March 27, and the band will be dropping by Coachella not long after to introduce our American cousins to the ‘Pub Feed’.
