Watch The Trailer For Taika Waititi’s New Comedy ‘The Breaker Upperers’
The film follows the exploits of two best friends who run a business breaking-up couples for cash.

Fresh from the overwhelming success of directing Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi is presenting a new comedy called The Breaker Upperers. It looks wild.
Written and directed by its lead-actors, the hilarious Jackie van Beek (What We Do In the Shadows) and Madeleine Sami (Top of the Lake), the film follows the exploits of two best friends who run a business breaking-up couples for cash. No spoilers, but I’m going to assume that breaking people up is full of hi-jinks.
“You work for weak assholes who don’t have the guts to talk to their partners,” says Celia Pacquola, neatly summarising the thrust of the film.
Have a look:
The film features a host of Australian and New Zealand talent including Celia Pacquola (Rosehaven) in her first feature film, Rima Te Wiata (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Cohen Holloway (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) and Oscar Kightley (Sione’s Wedding). You might also spot Rose Matafeo, one of the co-hosts of the extremely funny Boners of the Heart podcast.
Taika Waititi is on board as an executive producer, working with much of the same team that produced the excellent Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Boy.
The Breaker Upperers is being released in New Zealand in May, and should be released in Australia around the same time.
