Thandi Phoenix On Chipping Her Tooth On-Stage, Tour Nightmares And Loving The Spice Girls
Ouch.
Thandi Phoenix is the first to admit she’s not the most co-ordinated person.
From constantly tripping over to chipping a tooth while performing on the ABC, she’s got a heap of embarrassing/endearing stories to tell — and shared them with Music Junkee as part of The Artist Alphabet, our video series where acts chat through their most memorable moments.
The worst/best of the bunch? Probably that time she played on ABC’s The Set — things got “pretty rowdy” once The Dune Rats joined her and Illy on-stage.
“I was jumping around, and I ate the microphone,” she says. “At the time, honestly, it felt like this whole tooth was gone and I was trying to be cool. [I was like, I] can’t just ruin the end of the show, so I was singing along with this bit of a tooth in my mouth.”
That’s dedication, but as she shared, the Sydney’s Inner West-raised singer has always loved music. As a kid, she was obsessed with the Spice Girls, to the point she and a friend would play 2.5 girls each (they “split Ginger”).
Taking some time off a busy schedule after launching her debut EP late last year, Phoenix came in to share some moves, airbnb horror stories and more from her massive year as a rising star.
