They're out!
The world is rejoicing after all remaining members of the Wild Boars junior soccer team trapped in a flooded cave complex in northern Thailand were rescued overnight.
The four remaining boys, along with their 25-year-old coach, emerged from the caves in Chiang Rai on Tuesday evening along with a team of Thai Navy SEALS. The rescue brings to an end an 18-day ordeal that claimed the life of one diver and dominated news bulletins around the world.
“We are not sure if this is a miracle, a science [sic], or what,” read a post on the Navy SEALs Facebook page confirming the rescue mission’s success. “All the thirteen Wild Boars are now out of the cave”.
Eight boys had previously been rescued from the cave over the course of Sunday and Monday. The rescue mission involved hundreds of local officials as well as experts and volunteers from all around the globe.
On Monday, the Navy SEALs shared a cartoon depicting the efforts of the international rescue team.
The boys are currently recuperating in hospital, where they are expected to remain for at least a week.
