Last month, one of the most polarising figures in rap, Tekashi 6ix9ine, was released from prison.

6ix9ine — real name Daniel Hernandez — was arrested back in 2018 on racketeering, weapons and drugs charges. Early on during his trial, the rapper testified against the Nine Trey Gangsters, a bold move, given that group’s history of violence and association with the powerful Bloods street gang. Some called him ‘snitch’. Others called him foolhardy.

But Hernandez, for his part, seems to have no regrets about that behaviour, or literally anything else he’s ever done, for that matter. See, this last Friday, the musician took to Instagram Live to announce his return to public life after two years of absence. And rather than showing contrition, he immediately started bragging about his huge numbers of supporters.

To be fair, he had some evidence for that claim — his Live session was the most viewed in history, racking up almost 2 million viewers. Of course, viewers are not the same as supporters, but still, that’s pretty impressive. And Hernandez thought so too.

“I’m the biggest artist in the world,” he said. “Men lie. Women lie. Numbers don’t.”

Capping off that splashy return, the musician dropped a music video for a new song, ‘Gooba’. Within mere hours of going up, the clip had racked up almost 13 million views.

Needless to say, not everybody was particularly happy about the rapper’s return. Quickly, he became the source of much mockery online, with thousands making memes out of his livestream and its endless brags.

Of course, some appreciated Tekashi 69 for bringing some energy back into the game, and many hailed his tactics as perfect trolling.

Well, at the very least, this sudden flurry of activity hasn’t been boring. Let’s all sit back and see where it goes from here, shall we?
