Taylor Swift’s New Single ‘Lover’ Is (Almost) A Return To Her Country Roots
Swift's album 'Lover' will drop next Friday.
The run up to Taylor Swift’s forthcoming album Lover has been more than a little rocky.
First, she delivered us the technicolour nightmare that was ‘ME!’, which might rank as the worst lead single of Swift’s career. She then dropped ‘You Need To Calm Down’, which was definitely better than ‘ME!’, but courted controversy thanks to its heavy LGBTIQ angling — some thought it was a nice gesture to the community, others (including our Jared Richards) thought it was a blatant attempt to chase the pink dollar.
Things righted themselves slightly with the release of ‘The Archer‘, a compelling and heart wrenching piece of pop songwriting that proved the old Taylor wasn’t completely dead. And now we have ‘Lover’, which is probably the closest we’ve come in recent years to a return to the country Taylor of old. So yes, it’s great.
So what will the full album have in store? Luckily, we only have a week until we find out — Lover drops next Friday, August 23. Listen to the just-released title track below.
