Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has been given a God’s welcome at Splendour in the Grass this year: a bunch of religiously-minded individuals congregated at the top of the Splendour Amphitheatre and conducted a full sermon and worship session of the Australian music icon.

The event was initiated by Facebook meme page Triple j Memes For Tash Sultana Loving Teens, who set up a plan to “worship Kevin Parker” yesterday afternoon at the Byron Bay music festival — by the time the worship session kicked off, more than one thousand people had clicked “going” or “interested” on the event.

“Let’s worship this true messiah at the top of the Splendour Amphitheatre,” the event description read. “Worship commences after Amy Shark’s performance.”

In a video published by the triple j-themed meme page after the event, someone can be heard reading out a prayer.

“As in Perth, as in heaven, just like Kevin,” it began. “Give us today our daily dose of psych rock. Forgive us our sins as we forgive Trevor, who sinned against us.”

Trevor is a character in Tame Impala’s hit single ‘The Less I Know The Better’. In the song, these lyrics are said:

“Someone said they live together/I ran out the door to get her/She was holding hands with Trevor/Not the greatest feeling ever.”

Trevor quickly became one of the most notable memes on the Australian music scene: triple j, for instance, ran a segment discussing the “dodgy Trevors” they know.

As Parker confirmed earlier in the year, there wasn’t too much to read into: Trevor is just a word that rhymes with together.
