Marvel’s Golden Boy And Excellent Person Taika Waititi Might Be Taking A Role In ‘Suicide Squad’
Captain Boomerang, anyone?
Taika Waititi is the shining, pantsuited jewel in the crown of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After all, he’s the closest thing that the franchise has to a celebrity director; their very own Quentin Tarantino. While the Russos are out there being friendly if thoroughly forgettable, Waititi has transformed into something of a brand in and of himself, equally well-known for his fashion choices and his sense of humour.
All of which will make it a little harder for Marvel head honchos to swallow that Waititi is thinking about crossing the floor to team up with the comic company’s own arch nemesis DC.
Yep, Waititi is apparently “in talks” for a role in The Suicide Squad, the confusingly-titled sequel to Suicide Squad that is set to be helmed by James Gunn.

Needless to say, Gunn has his own history with Marvel; he was the writer and director of the two Guardians of the Galaxy films, till a successful campaign by a bunch of MAGA chuds got him briefly booted from the third GotG film. He was rehired, but not before he struck up a deal with DC to try and revive their disastrous attempt at a Suicide Squad franchise.
These are very early days, of course, so we don’t know what role Waititi is even being considered for, let alone how big or small it is, or whether he’ll even say yes. It’s entirely possible that this is nothing but a story of a short cameo that’s blown way out of hand due to our collective desire for more Taika Talk.
But hey, here’s my suggestion: why not cast him as Captain Boomerang? After all, that famous nemesis of The Flash has an impeccable sense of dress like Taika, not to mention a rogueish, lopsided charm. And casting a Kiwi to play the famous Aussie in comics? Perfect.
