Since the untimely demise of Tony Abbott, Australian political satire has been in something of a holding pattern. Tony’s departure left a Prime Minister-sized hole in what was the perfect target for mockery, and no one’s quite been able to fill it since.

Thankfully, Australian politics is inherently ridiculous, meaning that void was bound to be filled sooner or later. So it was with Stoner Sloth, the NSW government’s hilariously wrongheaded don’t-do-drugs campaign. The universal hilarity and contempt the campaign’s met with has been picked up by international media, prompted Premier Mike Baird to distance himself from the ads, and even spawned a nascent range of #StonerSloth merchandise.

Inevitably, Stoner Sloth has begun inspiring some pretty wonderful takedowns. This effort from YouTuber CRIS X harks back to a simpler time, when all you had to do to get a laugh was upload some footage of the Prime Minister doing something bafflingly stupid.

While this one, from user quollism, turns Stoner Sloth from a hapless wastrel into a hero, nobly saving his mother from the scourge of life-shortening, artery-clogging salt and passing her the salad instead. Truly, an act of courage.

This one might be my favourite, though. Only a few hours old, Sloth Wars: The Grass A-bakens will be hitting cinemas near you on April 20.

Here’s the image in all its full-sized glory. Really get in amongst the detail.
