Sticky Fingers bassist Paddy Cornwall has released a statement regarding the band’s alleged ‘blacklisting’ from triple j, offering an apology for past comments he made about the station.

The statement comes at the end of triple j’s Requestival week, in which listeners took complete control of the station between the hours of 6am and 9pm. One of Sticky Fingers’ tracks, ‘Australia Street’, was requested by listeners and played by the station.

Previous to that, the band hadn’t received any airplay from triple j following a disastrous interview given to Hack, in which the band addressed allegations made against them in years prior. Last year, Cornwall blasted the station, labelling the station a bunch of “fucking maggots”.

“Cheers to everyone who voted Sticky on Requestival this week and in Hottest 100 of the decade,” Cornwall wrote in a post on Instagram. “It’s clear our relationship with the jays is something special for many, including us over the years.

“I’ve seen a lot of people frustrated by the idea of the band being blacklisted by the station, but we haven’t,” he continued. “Let’s be real. It was my actions last year that ultimately soured the relationship.”

Cornwall goes on to call his outburst “dishevelled”, and claims he was “out of [his] head” and “not dealing well with personal battles of my own.”

“There’s no excuse,” he wrote. “What I did wasn’t cool. It was lame, and for me embarrassing. I’m sorry to the people I hurt at the station, as well as my own team.

“I hope sharing this helps find a resolve on this situation.”
