What feels like a lifetime ago, in the Before Times, Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari played to rapt audiences at the Sundance Film Festival.

The family drama was the most acclaimed film of the festival by far, courting universal acclaim and winning both of the festival’s major awards. Benjamin Lee of The Guardian, for instance, said, “Chung’s nuanced portrait of a family figuring out their place in the world is both small and somehow rather grand, and after it continues to win over the remaining crowds here at Sundance, it’ll soon be winning you over as well.”

The portrait of a young family trying to make it in America after migrating from South Korea, Minari has won particular acclaim for the performance of Steven Yeun, he of Walking Dead fame. Yeun plays the family’s father, struggling against the odds to make a difference in his young son’s life. It’s heartbreaking stuff, and the trailer doesn’t muck around with the sheer emotional heft of the thing.

I mean, just watch:

Of course, we only need such heartwarming content even more, given what’s happened since early January. No Australian release date for the film has been announced yet, but here’s to hoping that we get one very soon.
