Well, it’s official: we streamed a fuckload of Ed Sheeran in 2017.

The English ginger snap has dominated basically every category of Spotify’s end of year rankings both here in Australia and around the globe, with his flirty dancehall number ‘Shape Of You’ and album Divide taking out the Most Streamed Track and Most Streamed Album categories respectively. Unsurprisingly, he also nabbed the title of Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist Of The Year.

Drake came in second in the artist rankings, followed by Kendrick Lamar, The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd — you’ll notice that, disappointingly, no female acts made the grade.

In the female artist rankings it was all about Taylor Swift, who infamously dropped her entire catalogue onto Spotify the day of Katy Perry’s Witness release. Swift also stopped Rihanna from taking it out the female artist top spot four years in a row.

As for our homegrown acts, it was Flume and Sia who dominated — while newcomers like Tash Sultana, Amy Shark, and ‘Call On Me’ hitmaker Starley also made the rankings. Speaking Starley, ‘Call On Me’ took out the top gong for the most played Australian song of the year, closely followed by Pnau with their banger ‘Chameleon’ and ‘Waves’ by Dylan Lewis.

Away from the rankings, Spotify also identified some ~interesting~ genres that are on the rise across the globe, including the delightfully-named Vintage Swoon, Gamecore, and Chillhop. And no, we’re still not entirely sure whether they just made those up.

Scroll down for the full rankings, both Australia-specific and global — and head over to Spotify for all the relevant playlists.
