It was only a matter of time: Saturday Night Live has gifted us a sketch on the whole Novak Djokovic/Australian Open saga, with Pete Davidson playing the unvaccinated world number one.

If you’ve somehow missed the whole debacle, here’s a recap: Djokovic came to Australia to compete in the Australian Open with a medical vaccine exemption. His visa was then immediately revoked upon arrival in Australia, but then he won a court battle to reinstate said visa before Immigration Minister Alex Hawke used his ministerial powers to cancel the visa once again — sending Djokovic back to Serbia and ending his Grand Slam hopes. TL;DR: it was a hot mess.

During the SNL sketch, Djokovic appears on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle to discuss the situation with host Laura Ingraham (played by Kate McKinnon) and tell his side of the story after she covers other newsworthy topics like the green M&M being cancelled “just for being a whore.”

“Call me by my nickname, the Joker,” said Davidson says with a faux Serbian accent. “Although right now I’m the least popular Joker, except for Jared Leto.”

“People love to tear you off your pedestal just because you’re really rich or you’re the best at tennis or you go to a charity event with two hundred kids even though you’re dripping with COVID,” he told Ingraham in the sketch.

“But in my heart I know that one day people will look back at this moment in history and think ‘who cares’?'”

Ingraham thanks Djokovic for his appearance, asserting that she’ll “see you at Wimbledon”, to which he replies “probably not.”

The rest of the episode is well worth a watch, with SNL alum Will Forte making his hosting debut to promote the beloved recurring sketch MacGruber — which has been revived as its own standalone show on Peacock.

The episode comes amid rumours that Davidson has been a “total diva” on set after debuting his relationship with Kim Kardashian. However, an NBC representative denied the rumours as “not true” and confirmed Davidson has not missed any rehearsals.
