Slowthai Has Apologised For His “Shameful Actions” At NME Awards
"I want to unreservedly apologise, there is no excuse and I am sorry."
Slowthai has issued an apology for his embarrassing and disturbing behaviour at the NME awards, where, ironically, he was present to pick up the Hero of the Year award.
Slowthai, who made a splash with his burning, beautiful record Nothing Great About Britain, began to act out early during the night, when he made a series of increasingly lewd remarks to host Katherine Ryan.
Asking her to smell his perfume, and later making coded references to tending her “flower”, Slowthai’s actions were immediately slammed by those in the audience and those watching the videos posted on social media.

Things soured further when Slowthai tried to pick a fight with an audience member he had felt “interrupted” his speech. He was eventually dragged from the venue by security.

Now, in the cold light of the next morning, the rapper has apologised for his behaviour, promising to leave the “comedy” to Ryan.
.@nme please forward my award to @kathbum for she is the hero of the year. what started as a joke between us escalated to a point of shameful actions on my part. i want to unreservedly apologise, there is no excuse and I am sorry. i am not a hero. (1/2)

For her part, Ryan immediately accepted the apology, sending messages of support to the rapper and hoping that his “bad day on social media passes so quickly”.
I knew you were joking and congratulations on your very award-worthy album! I hope you know that a bad day on social media passes so quickly. Everything will be better tomorrow. Xx

Remember kids: leave the comedy to the comedians.
