It is a truth universally acknowledged that the early stages of an actor’s career are far from glamorous and that even Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings dreamboat himself Mr Simu Liu is not immune.

The star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings and Netflix’s hit comedy Kim’s Convenience, Simu Liu is an absolute delight. Not only are his tweets huge moods, but there are endless interviews and TikToks showing what a cool, kind guy he is in person.

It’s hard to believe Simu Liu has been anything other than a big star with a big heart. But the internet never forgets and, as it turns out, stock photos are forever.

Like many actors before him, John Boyega to name one, Simu Liu was a stock photo model. Over the last few months, people have been collecting his best stock modelling moments and posting them to Twitter.

Liu posted some of the photos to his Instagram story back in March of this year, explaining he did one shoot back in 2014. “I did ONE stock photo shoot for 100 bucks cash in 2014…” wrote Liu, “and I have ended up on HUNDREDS of ads and storefronts and pamphlets and textbook covers.”

“Moral of the story; Think twice before doing a stock photoshoot because they own the photos FOREVER” he wrote.

In 2017, Liu came across one of the stock photos he modelled for on an accounting textbook. He tweeted, “Call @Alanis Morissette because I just died from irony. I did a stock photo shoot in 2014 and it ended up here. I used to be an accountant.”

Whether he’s kicking ass as Shang-Chi, winning my heart in interviews, or enthusiastically showing his non-descript co-workers a presentation, I think we can agree Simu Liu is a treasure.
