Here’s that double dose of nostalgia that you ordered: Simple Plan have just put their own spin on the iconic Scooby Doo theme song.

Simple Plan have been strangely regular visitors to the world of the animated cartoon. According to the deeply wholesome Scooby Doo Wiktionary, they’ve had their music featured in both live-action films, and have even voiced themselves on an episode.

That episode, titled ‘Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman’, opens with the Mystery Gang on their way to a rock festival, only to have their plans to unwind undone by an invisible, malevolent force haunting Simple Plan. Why that band? Guess you’ll have to watch the episode to find out.

The band’s version of the theme song has been banging around the internet for a while now, but this new cover is the first recorded in a studio. Predictably, it absolutely slaps, walking a perfect line between kitsch fun and surprisingly serious respect of the original. After all, the Scooby Doo theme song has to be one of the most iconic of the ’90s, second to only the Transformers theme song, or the original X-Men: The Animated Series ditty.

Hell, while you’re checking out Simple Plan, why not also listen to this acclaimed cellist put her stamp on X-Men: The Animated Series.

Life is all about the small pleasures, after all.
