‘Selfies At Funerals’ Is A Tumblr That Actually Exists
Yep, we're all going to hell.
Funerals, they’re pretty sad, right? The end of the line, the point of no return, the eternal rest… all that stuff. They’re sombre affairs, and understandably so: wouldn’t you wanna spend some quiet time in melancholy personal reflection, knowing that, for example, your beloved Grandma’s shuffled off this mortal coil and is currently lying behind you in a shiny wooden box?
Yeah, I guess so, but I need to check my hair first, loser.
‘Selfies At Funerals‘ is a new Tumblr created by Jason Feifer (the guy who came up with the similarly-themed Tumblr ‘Selfies At Serious Places‘), and, well, its content is pretty self-explanatory: young’uns pose, pout and snap pics of themselves at dead-person gatherings. As you can imagine, the online reaction’s been swift and decisive: ‘Selfies At Funerals Is Where Humanity Goes To Die’, says a headline from Pop Hangover; ‘The Latest Evidence Apocalypse Can’t Come Soon Enough’, says The Huff Post.
But really, aren’t we looking at this all wrong? Aren’t these kids an inspirational example of that most precious of youthful impulses, the headlong desire to live fully in the moment without a care for one’s inevitable mortality?
No, you’re right, they’re narcissistic nutjobs and this world is ridiculous, enjoy!
