It’s officially election season and just one day into campaigning, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has — sensationally — asserted that being a “fixer” is his biggest weakness.

The election campaign has officially kicked off this morning, with Morrison doing a media blitz from the campaign trail on the NSW south coast — currently, a Labor-held seat.

In an interview with Sunrise, Morrison was asked to describe his biggest weakness and instead of going with any of the plethora of weaknesses that have been pointed out in recent months, he genuinely pulled the job interview move of turning your so-called strength into a weakness.

“I tend to go straight into problem-solving mode, Kochie,” Morrison managed to say while maintaining a straight face, as if major crises like the situation in Lismore have magically been solved (spoiler alert: they have not). “And I think when I do that people sometimes don’t think that I really understand how they’re feeling, I can assure you, they do.

“My father was a policeman, my brother is a paramedic. When we see a problem, we want to fix it so you know, fires? Get $2 billion into support for the communities.Get the money to the flood victims. Ensure that we’re putting JobKeeper in place. I tend to go straight into fixing things, Kochie and sometimes that might not com across the right way.”

I implore you to find a single Australian that would list problem-solving as one of Morrison’s strong suits from his last three years in power, but that is the answer this man honestly gave. Many Australians would probably claim that his biggest weakness is lying — a thing he has claimed not to have ever done.

In the interest of fairness, the same question was also posed to Anthony Albanese on Sunrise this morning.

“I have found my biggest weakness is my loyalty, ” Albanese said, unsurprisingly, also giving the ‘strength as a weakness’ answer. “I am very loyal to people and sometimes that makes me a bit predictable and that sometimes can hurt me politically.

“I make no apologies for that. That is just who I am.”

The election is set to take place on May 21, 2022 — which means we’ve got another six weeks of these weird media blitzes, so buckle up, folks.
