“He fucked us and his fingerprints are absolutely fuckin’ everywhere on that. The bloke thinks he is a master strategist. He is a fuckwit.”

Politicians! They’re just like us! And, by that, I mean they also call former Prime Minister Scott Morrison a “fuckwit” behind his back sometimes.

Following the failure that was the 2022 federal election, The Saturday Paper spoke to numerous current and former members of the Liberal party, including current MPs, advisers and officials about what they think went wrong for the Coalition.

Unsurprisingly, the answers all centred around the same stuff that we’ve been covering for weeks now, including the culture war around transphobia and encouraging people to spend their superannuation on a house deposit.

But in a spicy turn of events, one Liberal MP — who spoke on the condition of anonymity for obvious reasons — dragged Morrison to hell and back in quite possibly the best commentary is ever given by a politician.

“We spent a full fucking week being transphobes in parliament and then we spent weeks during the campaign doing the exact same thing, and it was fucking insane,” said the MP. “The transphobe thing was an absolute disaster. We clearly didn’t have enough economic policies. I think the strategy, such as it was, was to repeat the 2019 election campaign, but that was never going to be adequate for a few reasons.”

A similar sentiment was echoed by another ‘moderate Liberal MP’.

“He fucked us and his fingerprints are absolutely fuckin’ everywhere on that,” they said. “The bloke thinks he is a master strategist. He is a fuckwit.”

Other MPs launched scathing character assassinations on Morrison under the guise of anonymity, asserting that “his office hated me” and “everyone else was wrong and he was right”, among countless other criticisms.

“He’s not the messiah,” another member of cabinet observed. “He’s just a very naughty boy.”

Scott Morrison is yet to respond to the comments.
