2020 has been a rough, long year. So now, more than ever, we need to appreciate blessings like Sam Neill and his ukelele.

The storied actor, perhaps best known for his appearance in dinosaurs on the loose classic Jurassic Park, has spent the last few months honing his talents on the instrument. Hell, he even took on a Mark Ronson classic for the musician’s coronavirus livestream, transforming ‘Uptown Funk’ into a heartwarming ditty.

Now, from the depths of quarantine, Neill has dropped another classic. This time, he has taken on ‘Smile’ by Nat King Cole, and has made its lyrics more relevant than ever. “If you smile through your fear and sorrow, smile and maybe tomorrow you’ll see the sun come shining through,” Neill sings in his admittedly very beautiful voice.

“Yes, I’m in quarantine again,” Sam Neill wrote on Twitter. “So — singing to cheer myself up. Not well, obviously. Anyway — mask up folks, and smile as best you can over the top.”

It’s precisely the kind of pick-me-up we all need, particularly now that the second wave of coronavirus seems to be amassing on the horizon. So don’t worry, be happy, and lose yourself to one of the world’s most charming actors dedicating himself to spreading empathy and joy.
