Erica Mallett, one half of former triple j breakfast duo Sally and Erica, has released a statement discussing why the duo abruptly called an end to their radio career earlier this month.

The station announced the duo were leaving on November 17, one year after taking the reins of the coveted spot. At the time, triple j stated the pair were leaving to “pursue other opportunities”.

Mallett has now opened up about the real reasons behind the split, writing on Instagram that her and Sally Coleman simply came to the “natural conclusion of our time together.”

“The first thing I want to say is that Sally and Erica didn’t get axed from triple j,” she wrote. “In fact, the show was doing really well. We were getting great feedback across the board — from management and our listeners. Until recently, we were all planning for a 2021 where Sally and Erica would grow and grow.

“Sally and I started out together when I was 18, and I’m so proud of everything we have done over the last 8-or-so years — at triple j, as Coda Conduct, at FBi, the lot. She’s so clever and inspired and I’ve always admired that.

“I wanted breaky to continue. I really did, with my whole heart. Unfortunately, the reality was that although Sally and Erica – the show was going great guns, Sally and Erica – the people were coming to the natural conclusion of their 8 year creative ride together.”

Mallett said it was time to close the chapter, and she’s excited to move on and create with other people.

“I can’t tell you how grateful I’ve been to be able to rock up to work and chat, laugh and listen to music with you. I’ll miss you every day. I have so many people to thank, and that I’m going to miss at triple j who will always have my heart. But I want to save that for another post.”
