Promotion for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film has begun and Ryan Gosling is doing the most to confirm why he’s the perfect Ken.

Starring Margot Robbie as the titular doll, Greta Gerwig’s upcoming live-action Barbie film is one of the most anticipated films of 2023. Alongside Robbie, playing the literal Ken to her Barbie is Ryan Gosling and he’s making sure we damn well know it.

A trailer is yet to come our way, but Ryan Gosling has been delivering some divine nuggets of insight into his Ken transformation. Last week, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Gosling shared the profound moment when he made the choice to take on the role.

After receiving a call from director Greta Gerwig offering him the role, Gosling said he went out into his backyard to ponder the offer. As if the universe were trying to give him a sign, he recalled.

“I walk out into the backyard, and you know where I found Ken, Jimmy? Face down in the mud next to a squished lemon,” said Gosling. “I texted it to Greta and I said, ‘I shall be your Ken. For his story must be told’.”

While promoting his new film, Netflix’s The Gray Man, Gosling has also been proudly hyping up his role as Ken in Barbie. “There’s always been a Ken inside of me. I’ve had this Kenergy if you will,” he said in one interview.

In a chat with Variety on the red carpet premiere for The Gray Man, Gosling was asked what ran through his head when he saw the concept for Ken’s hair and costume.

“Finally. Finally, it’s happening. I’ve been waiting for this my whole life. It was amazing,” said Gosling. “I felt seen. I felt like I was seeing myself. I think a lot of Kens will feel seen when they see this.” Truly we cannot wait for this himbo representation.

Barbie is due for release in 2023.
