Rapture Nightclub in Western Australia is under fire for a “gross” response to a customer who got in touch to say that their drink had been spiked.

Shantel Smith, 19, attended Rapture Nightclub, only to allege that she woke up later in a toilet stall, foaming at the mouth and having vomited.

Shortly thereafter, she contacted the nightclub over Facebook to notify them of the spiking.

In response, a message accused Smith of having concocted the story of the drink-spiking herself as part of a “beat up”, while making a series of further claims pertaining to whether or not Smith was “worth” having her drink spiked.

“What proof do you have of your drink being spiked?” read the message from the Rapture Facebook page. “Why would anyone want to spike your drink? … Would you like a crowd controller to hold your drink for you next time [sic] you attend a nightclub? … Are you worth someone trying to spike your drink?

“We believe that no one would be stupid enough to waste their drugs on spiking anyone’s drink.”

Soon afterwards, the response from Rapture began to spread online, after triple j Good Nights host Bridget Hustwaite boosted a screenshot taken by Smith and posted by Bachelor personality Alisha Aitken-Radburn, who is friends with Smith.

As the message began to spread, the Rapture Facebook page was inundated with negative one star reviews, and comment-bombing flooded every post from the nightclub with screenshots of the response provided to Smith. A protest Facebook event was even created. Titled ‘Raid Rapture, They can’t spike us all, are we even worthy?’, attracting over 50 attendees.

In return, Rapture’s owner Neil Scott posted then deleted CCTV footage of Ms. Smith on his Facebook page.

“The large girl with the white top, the short black skirt and the black and white shoes is Shantel Smith, the girl who claimed to have had her drink spiked,” Scott posted, as reported by News.com.au.

“She seems in good spirits and did not leave the club once in the 2 hours 55 minutes of attendance. Nor did she seek help or assistance from any of the 14 staff on duty.”

Furthermore, Scott has doubled down on his comments in an interview with Nine News.

“Lets face it, why would somebody spike her drink?” said Scott. “Why would they do that? What are they hoping to get? What is she hoping to get from it?”
