Sorry Friends: Despite A Confusing 24 Hours, Antoni And Jonathan Of ‘Queer Eye’ Aren’t Dating

An ongoing saga just got way more exhausting.

For almost as long as their show has been on the air, rumours have swirled that Jonathan Van Ness and Antoni Porowski of Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot have been not-so-secretly dating.

After all, the two have always been very close, posting multiple couple shots on Instagram that — according to some — looked like the kind of thing you’d share with the world in the early throes of a new relationship.

Not, mind you, that the story didn’t always have its sceptics. Many were convinced that Van Ness and Porowski were simply good friends, and admonished the rumour mill for forcing a romantic angle on what could simply be a platonic friendship. More than that, the particularly cynical amongst us wondered whether strongly suggesting a relationship was on the cards might be a good way of keeping the pair — and their show — in the news.

Nonetheless, yesterday, for one brief moment, it looked like we were all wrong, and that the two were happily entwined in Queer Eye coupledom.

The whole mess was kicked off when the pair posted a lovely photo of them holding hands. Not necessarily couple stuff, but still pleasant enough to get the rumours swirling.

Then, Karamo Brown, pictured in the background of the shot flipping the bird, decided to wade into the comment section and kick the whole thing off into another gear:

Karamo of Queer Eye

That’s pretty unambiguous — Brown literally wrote the words, ‘They are a couple and in love’, which is as unadorned as you can get.

Welp, turns out that he was straight-up lying then. Hours later, Jonathan took to Twitter to clarify.

‘A satirical couple account’? That sounds pretty suss to me.

In fact, it sounds like this wasn’t the public forcing a romantic angle onto a friendship. Rather, it was Van Ness and Porowski deliberately stirring the flames of the ship-happy stans. Probably for attention and ratings? Not quite clear why else you would deliberately and repeatedly suggest you were dating a co-worker.

Anyway, Antoni quickly got back in the action and started the ‘joke’ up again.

Exhausting!
