The new Phoebe Bridgers album, Punisher, is very good. It’s also extremely emotionally raw.

That won’t be a surprise to anyone with even a passing knowledge of Bridgers’ work. Her breakthrough singles, ‘Scott Street’ and ‘Motion Sickness’, are about isolation and the power imbalances in a toxic relationship, respectively, and her debut album is one long howl of catharsis and sorrow.

Last year I saw Bridgers live (remember gigs? lol) and at least three people around me spent the entire show in tears. That’s the vibe.

Unsurprisingly then, longtime stans of the musician’s work are celebrating the release of Punisher with what has become a staple of the Bridgers Brand — very sad memes.

Yep, in the hours since Punisher‘s release late last night, Twitter in particular has lit up with a range of memes about disassociation, isolation, and heartbreak.

That Normal People meme up the top there is especially relevant, given that Paul Mescal, star of the limited series, and Phoebe Bridgers are mutual fans of each other’s work. Leading me to wonder: do you reckon that Mescal is out there, somewhere in the world right now, crying his eyes out to ‘I Know The End’? I sure hope so.

Listen to Punisher here.
